Great Smoky Mountains

We spent Labor Day weekend at the Buckberry Lodge outside of Gailinburg, TN at the edge of the Smoky Mountain National Park. We had an awesome time relaxing in the mountains and exploring the park. It rained most of the day on Sunday, but we were still able to get a good hike in on Monday before heading home.

Downtown Gaitlinburg

Exploring the tee pee in the lawn of the lodge.....

It only took a couple glasses of wine for Darren to jump in and meditate... probably focusing on a successful hunting season this year....

Our delicious dinner on the patio of the Lodge

About a 1/2 mile hike from the Lodge was a pavilion next to a stream

It was very rustic.... but still came equipped with a TV, just in case you can't go without watching the game!
We brought wine and cheese for our dinner Saturday night.

So glad we didn't have to use this horn !!

We did see a bear the next day in the Park!
It was just hanging out on the side of a cliff as we were driving through. I was able to jump out in time to snap this picture.

We were already committed to our hike when we realized that it was going to take 4 hours roundtrip to the closest bluff !!

Self timers always come in handy on our trips!

The top of the Bluffs....well, at least as far as I was willing to go!! On our next trip, we will have to plan a little more in advance to stay at the lodge that was another 5 miles up the mountain.

The journey back down the mountain went a lot faster than the way up.....
